Dive Site – Coral Bay (NEW MOORING)
Depth – Up to 14 meters
Visibility – 10 to 15 meters
Michaelmas Cay- affectionately known as Mickey- is protected as a ‘sensitive location’ recognised as the 8th most significant sea bird breeding site on the Great Barrier Reef. It provides stunning snorkelling, safe diving and fantastic opportunity to experience the amazing diversity of sea bird populations on the reef.
Coral Sea Dreaming is fortunate to hold the only commercial permit to stay overnight at this location. This unique experience allows guests to watch the sea bird antics as they fly in to roost at sunset after a long day hunting at sea. Tucked in behind the little sandy Cay, this is a safe anchorage and the perfect spot for night diving and snorkelling in the golden light of dawn.
Popular for sites such as Coral Bay, The Pub and Wild Dreams. Two of these moorings are new and the coral cover is absolutely spectacular with sections of Staghorn and Spaghetti coral as far as your eye can see. You can expect to see Green turtles, Giant Clams, Upside down Jelly fish, Razor fish, Unicorn fish and for those with a keen eye, be sure to look for the Golden Headed Goby and their partner shrimps symbiotically living together in their sand tunnel homes.
